WHAT IS CBD?
Cannabidiol (CBD) is a compound found in plants, such as hemp and cannabis. CBD affects the body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS.) This recently discovered system receives and translates signals from neurotransmitters known as endocannabinoids. The endocannabinoid system regulates numerous biological systems and plays a vital role in maintaining homeostasis within the body. Environmental and biological factors can break down the ECS’ ability to maintain equilibrium. Scientists believe that CBD can restore balance by activating or inhibiting certain compounds within the ECS.
Simply put, CBD better enables the body to heal and balance itself.
- NB&W’s CBD is made with Non-GMO, organic American hemp.
- Supercritical carbon dioxide extraction is used to obtain the active cannabinoids with no residual solvent, creating a pure and effective product.
- Each extraction is tested by a third-party laboratory to ensure potency, cleanliness, and safety.
DOES CBD GET YOU HIGH?
CBD does not get you high, and should not be confused with THC. Cannabidiol (CBD) and delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) are the two most referenced cannabinoids found in cannabis, the plant that produces marijuana. However, the two compounds are very different. THC is psychoactive, meaning it produces the “high” associated with marijuana use. THC mimics the body’s own cannabinoids, attaching to cannabinoid receptors found in the central and peripheral nervous systems. In contrast, CBD is non-psychoactive. It does not alter a person’s state of mind and CBD oil is legal in all 50 states.
CBD does not bind to any endocannabinoid receptors. Instead, it enables the body to use its own endocannabinoids more effectively. Furthermore, while CBD is found in the cannabis plant, most CBD oil is NOT derived from the marijuana plant, but rather its cousin, the hemp plant.
THERAPEUTIC APPLICATIONS OF CBD
CBD offers a spectrum of therapeutic benefits, the most renowned being CBD’s analgesic (painkilling) and anti-inflammatory properties. A curated CBD massage is ideal for people suffering from
- Muscle soreness
- Pain (especially back pain)
- Tension or tightness
- Stress or Anxiety
- Inflammatory skin conditions
The therapeutic benefits of CBD oil are continually supported in more and more clinical studies.
The article “Cannabinoids in Health and Disease” published in Clinical Neuroscience states “CBD is used to treat a number of common conditions, including chronic pain, inflammation, seizures, insomnia, spasms, multiple sclerosis, and mental disorders such as anxiety and depression.” Furthermore, “as a topical agent, CBD oil can be directly applied to certain areas of the body as an effective means of relieving pain and soreness, reducing inflammation, and soothing inflammatory skin conditions such as psoriasis, dermatitis, and eczema.”
These findings are supported in The European Journal of Pain which published a study on how transdermal cannabidiol reduces inflammation and pain-related behaviors concluded the “data indicate that topical CBD application has therapeutic potential for relief of arthritis pain-related behaviours and inflammation without evident side-effects.”
Furthermore, The Journal of Experimental Medicine found that “cannabidiol (CBD), a major nonpsychoactive component of marijuana, and its modified derivatives significantly suppress chronic inflammatory and neuropathic pain.”
